Writer's Guidelines

Planet Bahá'í publishes feature articles and book reviews, and some resource material on subjects related to the Bahá'í Faith, including but not limited to beliefs, history, current events, and personal experience, and commentary. All articles should be written from a Bahá'í perspective, be respectful of all people regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion, and show respect for the Central Figures and Institutions of the Bahá'í Faith. Within these general guidelines, a wide range of subjects may be treated.

Our audience is a mix of Bahá'ís and people of other faiths. We therefore seek a balance between introductory and intermediate materials. We do not normally publish scholarly works, although we will consider works of a scholarly tone that are aimed at a general audience.

Feature articles should be in the range of 350 to 4,000 words. Longer articles may be broken into sections, each with a section title.

Resource material is normally developed by Planet Bahá'í staff members, but please feel free to submit your ideas for resources that you might like to develop for us. Length and format varies for such materials.

At the moment we don't adhere to any particular style manual. Commonly-recognized American English rules of grammar and spelling are preferred, but British rules and spellings may also be used. Articles may take either a formal or an informal tone. All quotations from other works should be properly cited.

Writers may submit proposals or completed articles. Proposals should state the proposed subject matter, length, and an estimate of when the work could be completed.

Authors are requested to provide a short biography to be published along with their articles. They may use the biographies of Planet Bahá'í staff or already-published authors as examples of suggested content and length.

Photographs, artwork, and supplementary materials may be submitted to accompany articles so long as you own the copyright to such materials.

All submissions should be made in electronic format. Microsoft Word format is preferred, but most other Windows-compatible formats can be accepted. If all else fails, a plain text file may be submitted. Text should be typed without unnecessary formatting. Titles of books, magazines, and films should be italicized. Titles of articles should be embedded in double quotes. Boldface, italics, and underlining should otherwise be used sparingly if at all. Paragraphs may either be indented or double-spaced, so long as they are clear. Include the title and your byline at the top of the article. If your article is broken into sections, precede each section with an Arabic number (1, 2, 3, ...) and a section title.

Proposals and articles should be submitted to for consideration. Thank you!
